Lovely Georgian sterling silver snuff box with gently curved top to allow a comfortable fit within a breast or waistcoat pocket. The beautifully precision decorated box has a rambling wreath and flower head design, along with prick and wriggle work edging. A vacant rectangular cartouche completes the top's design. Reverse with further prick and wriggle has central engraved foliates; gilded interior. Hallmarks: Joseph Willmore (1773-1844), Birmingham 1826. Bears King George III silver duty stamp. Well regarded as a snuff box maker, Joseph registered his mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1806 and was the grandson of silver maker Thomas Willmore, who registered with the office in the year of it's founding, 1773. 1 3/8" W., 2 1/4" L.
