Bronze bottle opener mounted with a cast figural swan. The form is a fine example made by Richard Rohac (1906-1956) in Austria circa 1950. Rohac trained with Hagenauer prior to establishing his own metal workshop in 1932. He was well-known for creating stylized, Modernist figures of animals as well as other decorative sculpture. Signed beneath with the artist's backward/forward double "R" mark. 1 3/4" H., 3" L.

A wonderful and rare find for the collector of unusual figural cocktail bar accessories. The large cocktail recipe, bottle opener is in the form of an arrow. The 10 1/4" long arrow is engraved with six cocktail recipes: ALEXANDER, BACARDI, BRONX COCKTAIL, DRY MARTINI, MANHATTAN and SIDECAR. The rare-to-find example, made by Mappin & Webb, has dancing figures adorned with top hats, engraved about its circumference. The Jazz Age cocktail shaker features six engraved cocktail recipes, each numbered to correspond with six cocktail drink selections: 1-Bronx, 2-Clover Club, 3-Dry Martini, 4-Manhattan Dry, 5-Side Car, 6-Charley Horse. Designed by the well known New Zealand-born architect, Keith Murray. The freelance artist was commissioned by Mappin & Webb and Wedgwood among others, in England in the 1930's. The shaker has a convenient angular handle and a pivot-lock, spout cap, for practical pouring ease. A strainer is within the spout. Art Deco stepped elements complete the form. Firm's marks upon base. A less elaborate example without engraved design and spout is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. 8 3/4" H.
