Hagenauer patinated brass horse-and-rider bookends in the stylized form for which this Austrian workshop is so well-known. The animated subject, along with a flower, is set upon a scallop-front base. Each stamped "Made in Austria" and pictured in Werkstatte Karl Hagenauer Wien VII," an early catalogue, page 13. Made circa 1928. 4 7/8" W., 3 3/8" D., 4 7/8" H.

Secession gilded brass box made by the Erhard & Sohne workshop in Germany circa 1915-25. Six panels upon the hinged top depict leopards, horse and rider, sailing ship and bird. Side panels include an elephant and a lion. Four feet support the stunning box designed by Eugen Schwemmle. A similar example in the collection of the Brohan Museum in Berlin is pictured in the museum publication, "Metallkunst," page 158. Impressed workshop mark beneath. 2 1/2" H., 3 1/2" W., 5 1/4" L.
