Fine pair of Modernist silver candlesticks designed by Alphonse La Paglia. La Paglia created designs for Georg Jensen USA. Upon closing of the Jensen USA store, the designs were continued by the International Silver Co. of Meriden Connecticut until his untimely death in 1953. Marks: La Paglia Designed, International Sterling. Illustrated on page 125 in "Jensen Silver, the American Designs." 3 5/8" W., 4 3/4" H.

A rare find. Set-of-six sword cocktail picks are each silver gilt and created to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the Sword of Mercy design which was one of the three ceremonial swords used in the coronation ceremony, the other two being the Sword of Spiritual Justice and the Sword of Temporal Justice. The design symbolizes the transfer of the kingdom into the care of the Queen. Picks are fitted in their original silk- and red velvet-lined case.
