An energetic Bacchic putto and goat frolic upon a naturalistic, rocky ground. The ground is further enhanced with clusters of ivy and grapes along with florals as well as a ribboned staff. The finely detailed multi-cast group, in the manner of Clodion and August Moreau, is patinated in rich brown with deep golden tones on the putto. All rest on a variegated red marble demilune base. France circa 1880. 8 7/8" W., 8 3/4" H., 5 1/8" D.

Vienna Secession basket designed by architect Hans Ofner (1880-1939) and made in the Argentor workshop in Austria circa 1905. Crystal liner rests within rounded frame displaying gitterwerk elements upon its circumference as well as its open handle. Ofner studied with Josef Hoffmann at the Kunstgewerbescule. He went on to create Vienna Secession interiors along with fine metalwork, furniture and jewelry. An Ofner gitterwerk vase by Argentor is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. 7 1/2" H., 5 1/2" W.

Figural wine bottle holder from Brienz, Switzerland circa mid-nineteenth century. The magnificent carved, bearded gentleman lays upon a cart and is contoured to allow a bottle to rest as he holds a twig-form collar and twig-saw to nestle the bottle. The rare holder is assembled with pegs and has working wooden wheels. Early Black Forest carvings of walnut and linden trunks, symbols of luxury and wealth, were featured in international exhibitions in London, Paris and the United States. Carving of a human figure, as well as it unusual form, make the holder an extraordinary example for the collector of wine-related antiques. A stunning pewter mount with its original gilding adorns the green glass wine decanter. Reticulated berries, foliates and vines are complemented by a hinged top with berries in relief. Made by the Walter Scherf workshop founded in Nuremberg in 1899 and ceased operating in 1914. A fine example from this workshop, who commissioned prominent designers including Friedrich Adler, Peter Behrens and Joseph Maria Olbrich. The range was signed Isis or Osiris as is this beneath. Bronze of a 16th-century gentleman holding two geese. Charming depiction of the well-known bronze sculpture by Hans Peisser, titled "Gaensemaennchenbrunnen" ("The Goose Man's Fountain"). The original sculpture, cast in 1550, is located in the Nuremberg Town Hall square in the old town. The depiction portrays the tale of the geese being carried to market, and as they loudly protested, the gentleman took pity upon them and swiftly returned them to their home.
