Repousse copper covered oval wooden center bowl. Scrolling Art Nouveau and beaded elements cover the surface. Multi-colored jewelled cabochons are mounted within each of six panels. Very fine and minute attention to detail with rolled copper top edge fastened to wooden bowl with tiny nail rivets. France circa 1905. Dimensions: 2 3/4" H, 7 3/8" W, 10 1/2" L.

The original lithograph by Alice R. Glenny advertises the Women's Edition of the 19th century publication, Buffalo Courier. Glenny, an American painting and graphic artist, became president of the Buffalo society of artists. She studied with William Merritt Chase. Carved frame with UV-Plexi, 19 1/2" W., 23 1/4" H.
Les Maitres de L'Affiche
In the 1890's streets in major cities were enriched with large and colorful advertising posters created by leading artists of the era. The prominent artist, Jules Cheret had his own print workshop in Paris which offered works from the Imprimierie Chaix print workshop. As artistic director of Chaix, Cheret had the vision to create Les Maitres de l'Affiche (Masters of the Poster). The series of 11 3/8" x 15 5/8" posters designed by the most prestigious poster artists of the day were chromolithographic reductions of the same large format examples be these artists. Prints were sold in packages of four and offered from December 1895 to 1900. Ninety seven artists were represented in the series which on occasion included a bonus plate. 256 total plates or images were produced in the five years Les Maitres de l'Affiche was offered. Each print has an embossed seal confirming it's authenticity.

Lovely sterling silver bowl with a distinct Alphonse La Paglia influence. The Modernist form is virtually identical to designs commissioned by Georg Jensen to be created by La Paglia to retail in the Jensen store in New York from 1948-'51. Upon the designer's abrupt passing, silver workshops created examples closely based upon those of La Paglia. American circa 1950's. 3 1/8" H., 5 1/4" W.
Danish-influence sterling silver tray. Reticulated blossom-form handles with beaded accents adorn the gently curved sides. Notch elements further enhance the rolled edge. Made by the J. Wagner & Son workshop in New York circa 1940's. 7 1/2" W. to handles.

Figural wine bottle holder from Brienz, Switzerland circa mid-nineteenth century. The magnificent carved, bearded gentleman lays upon a cart and is contoured to allow a bottle to rest as he holds a twig-form collar and twig-saw to nestle the bottle. The rare holder is assembled with pegs and has working wooden wheels. Early Black Forest carvings of walnut and linden trunks, symbols of luxury and wealth, were featured in international exhibitions in London, Paris and the United States. Carving of a human figure, as well as it unusual form, make the holder an extraordinary example for the collector of wine-related antiques. Quite fine condition apart from wear to nose area upon this over 150 year old antique.11" H., 5 3/4" W., 18 1/2" L.

Bronze of a 16th-century gentleman holding two geese. Charming depiction of the well-known bronze sculpture by Hans Peisser, titled "Gaensemaennchenbrunnen" ("The Goose Man's Fountain"). The original sculpture, cast in 1550, is located in the Nuremberg Town Hall square in the old town. The depiction portrays the tale of the geese being carried to market, and as they loudly protested, the gentleman took pity upon them and swiftly returned them to their home. This detailed casting rests upon a variegated green marble base and bears the original retailer's label beneath, G.G. Leykauf. Nuremberg circa 1910. 6 1/4" H.
