The George III box is hallmarked: Matthew Linwood, Birmingham 1811. Well-regarded as a maker of silver boxes, Linwood was born in 1756 and had a silver workshop at Great Charles Street in Birmingham. Very fine Vienna Secession silver box. Exquisite example created in the well-known Alexander Sturm silver workshop in Vienna, circa 1922-32. Possibly designed by Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956). Prior to 1903 Sturm made designs for Hoffman, prior to the founding of the Wiener Werkstatte, again resuming Hoffmann designs circa 1932, when Wiener Werkstatte closed.
