Fine Georgian silver box set with a polished, large pillow-form banded caramel agate. The box, with rounded corners, has a deep horizontal relief design upon the sides and is gilded within. The George III box is hallmarked: Matthew Linwood, Birmingham 1811. Well-regarded as a maker of silver boxes, Linwood was born in 1756 and had a silver workshop at Great Charles Street in Birmingham. In 1811 he became guardian of the assay office. 1 3/4" W., 2 1/8" L.

Wonderful marabou figural cigar cutter. Designed by Ignatius Taschner (Germany, 1871-1913), known for his animal sculptures. The hammered steel bird has a guillotine-design beak. A spirited Art Deco cocktail picks set with a painted metal saxophone player. The figure, with his red hat and bow tie, holds a brass painted sax as he faces a holder with six red-top-mounted cocktail picks. All are mounted on a macassar wood base. Extraordinary Jugendstil large wine jug made by the Carl Deffner workshop of Esslingen, Germany, circa 1905. A multi-segmented monkey guards the domed top, while its long tail forms a curved, open handle. The silvered tankard is enhanced with Jugendstil whiplash designs in relief. The monkey, as well as the spout and round foot, are all gilded. Firm's marks beneath. 5 7/8" W., 15 1/2" H.

Iffland, a member of the Berliner Bildhauerschule, was active 1885-1915. He became most well-known for his sculptures of young children and women.
